高寒草原是指在海拔较高、气候环境寒冷且干燥的情况下生长成的一种植被形态,在草原种类中是最能耐寒的一类,是草原群落的一个独特的植被类型。在新疆面积较大,分布广,类型多样。从昆仑山、阿尔金山、帕米尔高原到天山、阿尔泰山均有分布。对于保持水土、涵养水源以及畜牧业生产和草原生态保护建设都具有十分重要的地位。本文根据新疆高寒草原的植物生长特点对主要植被类型进行了划分,并对其分布特征进行了描述,这对新疆植物资源的合理开发利用、保护和增值具有十分重要的指导意义。
